Mix of traditional pencil+ink and Photoshop! It depicts how a dagger is faster to use than a two-handed sword.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As simple as these black and white drawing are, they come from a very laborious process. I sketch the scene several, if not a dozen times, until I get the feeling I want - whether from my head or using some medieval combat photos. Then comes inking, which is something I don't really crave for, but seems to be getting better (read not screwing the pencils totally). After I scan I play in Photoshop fixing odds and ends, which has been very fun - can undo mistakes!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;_______________________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Então aqui está a primeira ilustração que fiz para o projeto Old Dragon. Mistura de lápis+nanquim tradicionais e Photoshop! Ela mostra como uma adaga é mais rápida de se usar do que um montante.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estes desenhos em preto e branco parecem simples, mas surgem de um processo trabalhoso. Eu esboço a cena várias vezes, ou até uma dúzia, até que consigo a sensação que eu quero - seja da minha cabeça ou usando algumas fotos de combate medieval. Então vem o nanquim, que não é algo que eu adoro, mas parece estar ficando melhor (Isto é, não está avacalhando o lápis completamente). Some guys from 3 different blogs, unhappy with the new video-game-like D&amp;amp;D and wanting something more Old-School, joined forces and initiated the Old Dragon project - as well as the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://www.paragons.com.br/"&gt;Paragons&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt; blog later on.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;But back then, before the paragons arrived, there was an opening for artists and I left a comment in the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://www.vorpal.com.br/"&gt;Vorpal blog&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;. Time passed and I never got a reply, until I read a really nice RPG session description by Allana at the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://pensotopia.com.br/"&gt;Pensotopia blog&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt; and left a comment. Such comments include website/blog address, so &lt;a href="http://willdan.deviantart.com/"&gt;Daniel Ramos&lt;/a&gt;, illustrator and Art Director of the Old Dragon project, visited my blog and invited me in to 'OD'!.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;I'm very proud to be a part of this talented team and I hope I can contribute on the same level! :)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;The illustration here depicts the four classes of Old Dragon. Alguns caras de três blogs diferentes, insatisfeitos com o novo D&amp;amp;D estilo video-game e querendo algo mais 'old-school' (velha guarda) juntaram forças e iniciaram o projeto Old Dragon - assim como o blog &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://www.paragons.com.br/"&gt;Paragons&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt; mais tarde.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;Mas antes dos 'Paragons' chegarem, tinha uma abertura para artistas e eu deixei um comentário no &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://www.vorpal.com.br/"&gt;blog Vorpal&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;. In that day my usual teacher &lt;a href="http://guignard.dcc.ufmg.br/guignard/uploads/c0a80a65-3c21-a935.pdf"&gt;Solange Botelho&lt;/a&gt; was unavailable, so the excellent &lt;a href="http://www.comartevirtual.com.br/juliport.htm"&gt;Júlia Portes&lt;/a&gt; guided us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In this work the figure to the left was made by my right hand, and the ones to the right by my left hand. Although I tried this before, and already knew the theory behind it, It was a very interesting experiment. My regular drawing ended up being far less expressive than the one done with my left hand. A colleague also pointed this out clearly, and preferred the 'left' images.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is a book called Drawing  on the right side of the brain by Betty Edwards that touches this subject. Drawing with the left hand means using the brain's right hemisphere, which is intuitive and capable of seeing the whole - as opposed to the left side, which is logical and sees the details.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The conclusion is that learning to draw never really ends. While I can draw a figure in front of me quickly and realistically, it comes out a bit unexpressive. I could surely use more of the right side of the brain to make my drawings feel... right :-P&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;____________________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Este é um desenho do curso de Modelo Vivo da &lt;a href="http://www.uemg.br/unidade_guignard.php"&gt;Escola Guignard&lt;/a&gt;. Naquele dia minha professora regular &lt;a href="http://guignard.dcc.ufmg.br/guignard/uploads/c0a80a65-3c21-a935.pdf"&gt;Solange Botelho&lt;/a&gt; estava indisponível, então a excelente &lt;a href="http://www.comartevirtual.com.br/juliport.htm"&gt;Júlia Portes&lt;/a&gt; nos guiou.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Neste trabalho a figura na esquerda foi feita pela minha mão direita, e as na direita pela mão esquerda. Apesar de ter tentado isto antes, e também saber a teoria por trás disto, foi um experimento muito interessante. Meu desenho normal acabou sendo bem menos expressivo do que aquele feito pela minha mão esquerda. Uma colega também atentou claramente para este fato, e preferiu as imagens 'esquerdas'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tem um livro chamado Desenhando com o lado direito do cérebro, da Betty Edwards que toca neste assunto. Desenhando com a mão esquerda significa usar o hemisfério direito do cérebro, que é intuitivo e vê o todo - em oposição ao lado esquerdo, que é lógico e vê os detalhes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A conclusão é que aprender a desenhar nunca acaba. Enquanto que eu posso desenhar uma figura na minha frente rapidamente e realisticamente, ela termina um pouco inexpressiva. Since the last post dealt with the ethnicity, we can talk process here.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;This was all digital, and it was such a pain to do. And also wonderful at the same time. Yes I have a love-hate relationship with digital art.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;The line part gets really, really stiff as I can't get the lines I want at the speed and expression I want. A line looks great when zoomed out but then you go to 50-100% view and its all jagged. I could use vector tools but then it gets even slower and less expressive and less rewarding to do than hand drawn lines. So I end up drawing piece by piece and it works out, but then I can't feel the whole piece. It also goes slower, so instead of several hours like the other TTK stuff these apparently simple line stages took me days to do.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;The render part on the other hand is great. Total freedom to experiment thanks to layers, undo, brushes and textures really beats traditional medias for me. Just one fatal flaw in this piece was doing the grass with filters. I always tried to create a visual solution for grass myself, but it doesn't look great and it takes aeons to do. So I was once again swept by the dark side and the result is not as good as I thought it would be. When I have time I'll revisit this one and make the grass myself. That will put the piece together much better!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;To wrap it up, that eagle and wolf are among the first animals I ever did. I always just drew humans, really. Já que na última postagem descrevi a etnia, podemos falar do processo agora.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;Esta arte foi toda digital, e foi um pé no saco fazê-la assim. E maravilhoso ao mesmo tempo. Sim eu tenho uma relação amor-ódio com arte digital.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;A parte das linhas fica muito, muito dura já que não consigo as linhas que eu quero, na velocidade e expressão desejadas. Uma linha parece boa quando no zoom total, mas quando se vê em 50-100% está tuda retorcida. Eu poderia usar ferramentas de vetor mas então fica ainda mais devagar e menos expressivo e menos prazeroso de fazer do que linhas feitas à mão. Então eu acabei fazendo pedaço por pedaço e até que funciona, mas não dá pra sentir o trabalho como um todo. Por isso fica mais devagar, então ao invés de várias horas como os outros desenhos este estágio de linhas aparentemente simples demorou dias pra ficar pronto.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;A parte da 'renderização' por outro lado é ótima. Liberdade total de experimentar graças a camadas, desfazer, pincéis e texturas bate técnicas tradicionais fácil pra mim. Apenas um erro fatal neste desenho foi fazer a grama com filtros. Eu sempre tentei criar uma solução visual para grama por minha conta, mas não fica muito bom e demora eras pra se fazer. Então mais uma vez fui levado pelo lado negro e o resultado não foi tão bom quanto eu acharia que fosse ficar. Quando eu tiver tempo irei re-visitar este desenho e fazer a grama por minha conta. Isso vai amarrar o trabalho de forma bem melhor!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: verdana;"&gt;Pra fechar, a águia e o lobo estão entre os primeiros animais que eu já fiz. Or so I hope. Incidentally, I just realized that I've been using a font that I find indigestible on my posts! Wish I could change the font in all posts at once. Georgia wasn't on my mind :P&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:verdana;font-size:100%;"  &gt;So without further ado let's talk Druid, according to The Third Kingdom's Player Handbook:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:verdana;font-size:100%;"  &gt;"Some say the Druids have been on the Rim for as long as the Old Ones. They choose not to support or disprove this claim, but it is known that the Druids were here long before the first Thenarian ships arrived. Like the Old Ones they do not build cities, living in small hamlets with others of their kind. The Druids are nature worshippers, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:verdana;font-size:100%;"  &gt;venerators of the Spirits that inhabit the world. Unlike the Old Ones they do cultivate land, craft metal, and build permanent structures. Druids are tall and brown-skinned. Many have red or blond hair and piercing blue&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style=";font-family:verdana;font-size:100%;"  &gt;eyes. Druid characters average about 5’ 10” in height. Eles escolheram não dar suporte ou desaprovar esta afirmação, mas sabe-se que os Druidas estiveram aqui muito antes da primeira embarcação Thenariana chegar. Assim como Os Anciões eles não constroem cidades, vivendo em pequenos vilarejos com outros de sua etnia. Os Druidas são adoradores da natureza, venerando os Espíritos que habitam o mundo. Ao contrário dos Anciões eles cultivam a terra, forjam metal, e constroem estruturas permanentes. Druidas são altos e de pele bronzeada. Muitos tem cabelos rubros ou loiros e olhos azuis penetrantes. The second pack has been available for some time now, so I decided to post about it!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;'Spandex Legion' is a line of paper miniatures for Superhero RPG games. Like the BRP Rome book (see posts &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/05/witch-bruxa.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/06/rome-releasedrome-lancado.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;) it was done for &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/"&gt;Alephtar Games&lt;/a&gt; .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;'Spandex Legion' features several hero archetypes, that can be further customized with different powers, gear and/or colors. In the second pack, there are basic spandex heroes, heroes with overcoats and guns, mythic warriors, armor clad heroes and mystic, magic wielding heroes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can check out the minis preview at the &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/spandex.html"&gt;Spandex Legion page&lt;/a&gt; at Alephtar Games; and purchase the pack 1 at Drive Thru RPG store &lt;a href="http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=62906"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;, and the pack 2 &lt;a href="http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=63136"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;. I included in this post two sample characters, and a full sample group!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Save for two notable exceptions, these minis were all done straight in the computer, and are vector illustrations. I managed to get some good lines using my tablet and free drawings tools, but I used mostly 3 point curves. Its a very different feel from my hand drawn stuff, which is what I still prefer. But the deadline... it was very, very tight. I managed to do 24 minis in 40 days, spending whole April and some days in March and May. It was a crazy busy time for me, with a surgery in the family and other things going on. Even the rainy time was seemingly against me. Some days I just had to turn the PC off or it would fry with the light going on/off all the time - therefore I had to draw a mini by hand.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Its really nice to look back now and see that I made it. I even chose the product name and did the logo (with &lt;a href="http://www.blambot.com/"&gt;Nate Piekos&lt;/a&gt;'s Warmonger font), with the little guy flying and all. Eu incluí neste post dois personagens de amostra, e um grupo inteiro de amostra também!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Salvo por duas notáveis exceções, estas minis foram todas feitas direto no computador, e são ilustrações vetoriais. Eu consegui algumas linhas boas usando o tablet e um modo de desenho livre, mas na maior parte usei curvas de 3 pontos. É um 'feeling' bem diferente dos meus desnehos feitos à mão, que é o que ainda prefiro. Mas o prazo... era muito, muito apertado. Eu consegui fazer 24 miniaturas diferentes em 40 dias, gastando todo mês de Abril e alguns dias em Março e Maio. Foi um tempo louco e ocupado pra mim, com uma cirurgia na família e outras coisas rolando. Até o tempo chuvoso estava contra mim, aparentemente. Alguns dias eu tinha que desligar o PC ou ele ia fritar com a luz sendo cortada/voltando toda hora - por isso tive que desenhar uma mini à mão.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;É bom demais olhar pra trás agora e ver que eu consegui. Aliás eu até escolhi o nome do produto e fiz o logo (com a fonte Warmonger do &lt;a href="http://www.blambot.com/"&gt;Nate Piekos&lt;/a&gt;), com o carinha voando e tudo. This is something more sketchy and intuitive, after the over detailed works I've been doing lately. It's based on an old drawing - you can check by the paper I used, that is from the same decade-old plus notebook. Did on the bed on a boring night, after a week long drawing block.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking on blocks, the block the Hulk carries had written 'essay notebook' in it, but I thought it would be goofy to put it into this new version. And for sure, my notebooks always had some sort of drawing!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;_____________________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;E aí pessoal! Aqui vai algo mais esboçado e intuitivo, depois dos trabalhos rebuscados que venho fazendo recentemente. É baseado em um antigo desenho - você pode conferir no papel que usei, que é do mesmo caderno com uma década e alguns anos de vida. Fiz na cama em uma noite tediosa, depois de um bloqueio para desenhar de uma semana.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No bloco que o Hulk carrega estava escrito 'caderno de redação' mas eu achei meio bobo colocar nesta nova versão. This Third Kingdom ethnicity was described in the &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/07/ttk-dheval-male.html"&gt;previous post&lt;/a&gt;, so I'll write about the process drawing it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As with other TTK pieces, it started with 2H pencil on white canson A3 paper. I thought it just had to be a urban setting, so I sketched a very basic background with that in mind. The work was then scanned and after I lay flat colors I start selecting areas and rendering. This is my favorite part: all anatomy and details are there, so I can just freely 'paint'. I do so with low opacity (10%) brushes, to slowly build up the figure; although I use some Curves and Brightness/Contrast commands to ensure a good contrast of the gray tones. I'm actually terrible at that: my  pencil rendered works are all very, very light and lack contrast. So its good learning and hopefully I can bring it to traditional media as well. Chiaroscuro is everything!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In this particular drawing I think the gray tones actually saved it. I wasn't too sure it was good at first and thought other TTK works were better. But the 'painting' part made it interesting and proved to be the crucial part of the process. The pretty much full digital background came out nicely and took it further than a simplier back would. Interestingly, TTK author Todd Leback had these exact same impressions!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh and I used some textures by http://danidraws.com/ on the background. Esta etnia do Terceiro Reino foi descrita no &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/07/ttk-dheval-male.html"&gt;post anterior&lt;/a&gt;, então eu vou escrever sobre o processo de desenhar.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Assim como outros desenhos de TTK, começou com láís 2H sobre papel canson branco, tamanho A3. Eu achei que tinha que ter em um ambiente urbano, então esbocei um cenário bem básico tendo isso em mente. O trabalho foi então escaneado e depois de colocar cores chapadas eu começo e selecionar áreas e renderizar. Esta é minha parte favorita: toda anatomia e detalhes estão lá, e eu posso apenas 'pintar' de forma livre. Eu faço isso com pincéis de baixa opacidade (10%), para lentamente construir a figura; apesar de que uso alguns comandos de Curvas e Brilho/Contraste para certificar um bom contraste dos tons de cinza. Na verdade sou ruim nisso: meus trabalhos sombreados com lápis são muito, muito claros e não tem contraste. Então é um bom aprendizado e espero que possa trazer isso para as mídias tradicionais também. Chiaroscuro é tudo!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Neste desenho em particular eu acho que os tons de cinza salvaram o trampo. Não estava com certeza que estava bom e achei que outros trabalhos do TTK estavam melhores. Mas a parte da 'pintura' tornou tudo interessante e provou ser a parte crucial do processo. O cenário, praticamente todo digital, saiu bom e melhorou o desenho bem mais do que um fundo simples faria. O interessante é que o autor do TTK, Todd Leback, teve estas mesmas impressões que eu!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ah e eu usei algumas texturas da http://danidraws.com/ no cenário. Like the BRP Rome book (see posts &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/05/witch-bruxa.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://alexandretogeiro.blogspot.com/2009/06/rome-releasedrome-lancado.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;) it was done for &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/"&gt;Alephtar Games&lt;/a&gt; .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;'Spandex Legion' features several hero archetypes, that can be further customized with different powers, gear and/or colors. In the first pack, there are basic spandex heroes, martial artists, savage clawed heroes, speedsters, big strong heroes, and modern, leather clothed heroes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can check out the minis preview at the &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/spandex.html"&gt;Spandex Legion page&lt;/a&gt; at Alephtar Games; and purchase them at Drive Thru RPG's &lt;a href="http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=62906"&gt;Spandex Legion home page&lt;/a&gt;. I included in this post two sample characters, and a full sample group!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Save for two notable exceptions, these minis were all done straight in the computer, and are vector illustrations. I managed to get some good lines using my tablet and free drawings tools, but I used mostly 3 point curves. Its a very different feel from my hand drawn stuff, which is what I still prefer. But the deadline... it was very, very tight. I managed to do 24 minis in 40 days, spending whole April and some days in March and May. It was a crazy busy time for me, with a surgery in the family and other things going on. Even the rainy time was seemingly against me. Some days I just had to turn the PC off or it would fry with the light going on/off all the time - therefore I had to draw a mini by hand.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Its really nice to look back now and see that I made it. I even chose the product name and did the logo (with &lt;a href="http://www.blambot.com/"&gt;Nate Piekos&lt;/a&gt;'s Warmonger font), with the little guy flying and all. Eu incluí neste post dois personagens de amostra, e um grupo inteiro de amostra também!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Salvo por duas notáveis exceções, estas minis foram todas feitas direto no computador, e são ilustrações vetoriais. Eu consegui algumas linhas boas usando o tablet e um modo de desenho livre, mas na maior parte usei curvas de 3 pontos. É um 'feeling' bem diferente dos meus desnehos feitos à mão, que é o que ainda prefiro. Mas o prazo... era muito, muito apertado. Eu consegui fazer 24 miniaturas diferentes em 40 dias, gastando todo mês de Abril e alguns dias em Março e Maio. Foi um tempo louco e ocupado pra mim, com uma cirurgia na família e outras coisas rolando. Até o tempo chuvoso estava contra mim, aparentemente. Alguns dias eu tinha que desligar o PC ou ele ia fritar com a luz sendo cortada/voltando toda hora - por isso tive que desenhar uma mini à mão.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;É bom demais olhar pra trás agora e ver que eu consegui. Aliás eu até escolhi o nome do produto e fiz o logo (com a fonte Warmonger do &lt;a href="http://www.blambot.com/"&gt;Nate Piekos&lt;/a&gt;), com o carinha voando e tudo. I did several sketches with different angles. The one I liked and used for the final piece can be seen below. You can see that even then I changed it a lot. I made the Roman soldier  (&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titus_Manlius_Torquatus_%28347_BC%29"&gt;Titus Manlius Torquatus&lt;/a&gt;)  ready to dodge instead of charging the Gaul - this is in the text that goes with the illustration, which is a terrific depiction of this duel! It was written by Livy in his work entitled 'Ab urbe condita'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then I pencilled the final drawing lightly, and inked it with a technical pen. After scanning it I added further detail in Photoshop. The Gaul's tattoos, for example, were filled with black in the computer, as I wasn't sure about that. I experimented making them hacthed and gray toned, but I think black gave a nice contrast to it! Eu fiz muitos esboços com ângulos diferentes; o que mais gostei e usei para a peça final pode ser visto acima. Você pode ver que mesmo assim eu mudei muita coisa. Eu fiz o soldado Romano (&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titus_Manlius_Torquatus_%28347_BC%29"&gt;Titus Manlius Torquatus&lt;/a&gt;) pronto pra se esquivar ao invés de atacando o Gaulês - isto está no texto que vai junto com a ilustração, que é uma descrição incrível deste duelo! Foi escrito por Lívio na sua obra intitulada 'Ab urbe condita'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Então eu desenhei a lápis bem de leve, e finalizei com nanquim, usando uma caneta técnica. Depois de escanear eu adicionei mais detalhes no Photoshop. As tatuagens do Gaulês, por exemplo, foram pintadas de preto no computador, já que não tinha certeza sobre isto. Eu experimentei fazer elas hachuradas e com tom de cinza, mas eu acho que preto deu um contraste legal pro trabalho! Here comes an excerpt from &lt;a href="http://www.thirdkingdomgame.com/"&gt;The Third Kingdom&lt;/a&gt; Player's Handbook:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Tall, blond and light-skinned, the Arganti hail from the Northern Reaches. Their territory hugs the Bitter Ocean and they are known as great sailors and fearless warriors, although not even they are known to travel far out into what they call “the Big Empty”. The Arganti dwell mostly in five major tarls near the tip of the Rim but can be found anywhere – they tend to be struck with wanderlust in their late teens and early twenties and often set out to see the rest of the Rim. The Sorcerer’s Guild has little presence in the Northern Reaches and all five of the Arganti tarls – Abasant, Argant, Melwot, Raher, and Trusk – consider themselves to be part of the Free Territories. Many others, especially Thenarians, view the Arganti as crude and uncouth, which may have some truth to it, although they are actually quite a polite and civilized race. As a people they tend to be ambivalent towards magic and plasm, neither loving nor fearing it. However, they respect what it can do as well as the demons it can produce."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As with all TTK art, this is traditional pencil scanned and finalized with gray tones in Photoshop. I'm stil not sure if the tattoos are too much with the clothing patterns! And please note that the background was quickly made - I just don't want the ethnic folks floating in the book. While not slapped in without concern or care, it could be much better - but the point is selling the characters, not the landscape. And still, this piece took forever to make! I blame it on the celtic motif stuff and the fact that I did both male and female together this time (will do this for all now on). That and the fact that I'm slow. I must do these ethnic illos a lot faster, so I can start the other illustrations for the book! If there's an award for slowest illustrator in the world, please let me know. E por favor note que o fundo foi feito rapidamente - eu simplesmente não quero que as pessoas das etnias flutuem no livro. Enquanto que não foi jogado de qualquer jeito, poderia ser bem melhor - mas o ponto é vender os personagens, e não a paisagem. Ainda asim, este desenho demorou demais pra ser feito! Coloco a culpa nos padrões celtas e no fato de que eu fiz o homem e a mulher juntos desta vez (vou fazer todos assim agora). Isso e o fato de que sou lento. Eu preciso fazer estes desenhos das etnias bem mais rápido, para que as possa começar as outras ilustrações do livro! Se tiver um prêmio para ilustrador mais lento do mundo, por favor me informe. They first started to appear at least four hundred years ago in small numbers – merchants, wanderers, and exiles – from the east. Several decades after the first settlers arrived a large number, almost an army, made their slow way through Ridgehorn Pass in the northern Halthu Mountains. They were the last of their kind, they said, fleeing the ruins of their once glorious civilization. Tall and dark-skinned, they are one of the few cultures that use the High Speech for day-to-day use. While it does not seem that they have a higher percentage of magic-users than any other group they are&lt;br /&gt;often referred to as “the People of the Staff” or simply “Wizards”. The staff refers to the tenwei that many of their spellcasters wield, although such an object is not unique to their culture. However, the term “wizard” has come to mean any spellcaster that use a tenwei. Upon their arrival the Anwei spread out among the various tarls, taking none for their own. They can be found anywhere in the Rim, although they tend to live more in the Free Territories as there is some antipathy between the Anwei and the Sorcerer’s Guild."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This piece was made with pencil, including basic shading; then it was scanned and 'colored' with gray tones on a PC. As with the female Anwei, I digitally increased the legs a bit - only I saved time and did it right after scanning. Looking at a drawing in a monitor really makes it much easy to spot correct proportions and anatomy. Probably because its a flat surface, and the drawing can be scaled down! Earlier this year my good friend Alysson Lago sent me a link for a RPG system and fantasy setting: The Third Kingdom. The author, Todd Leback, was looking for an artist to provide illustrations - and I quickly signed in! I got really busy with other works for some months, but finally I have time to start doing the illos for TTK.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Third Kingdom is a really exciting fantasy setting! It keeps impressing me the more I read it! I will let Todd's own words present his creation:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The Third Kingdom is the realm of mortals, bridging the gap between immortal Faerie and the deathless Eternity. The world of the Third Kingdom is much like ours in geography and size, although magic is omnipresent. While standard fantasy races (elves, dwarves, etc.) exist, the characters are human. The setting&lt;br /&gt;provided in this book assumes the characters begin play in the Rim, a vast swath of land some three thousand miles long and over a thousand wide on the continent of Onsuulan. There, human society is concentrated in large urban enclaves, each a city-state in its own right. The Rim itself is wild, travel dangerous due to the everpresent magical energy that shapes and twists nature. While humans have learned to harness and benefit from plasm (magical energy) they do so at great risk, for manipulating plasm often has unintended consequences in the form of manifesting deadly creatures of magic, hungry for human flesh and blood.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The harnessing of magic has allowed mankind to free itself from the standard norms of a medieval society, and the level of technological sophistication is much higher than might be expected. He's also keeping the door open and allowing people to help develop and detail the setting.&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;About this piece: one of the first TTK drawings I made. This is a female human of the Anwei etchnicity. While not all of their individuals dabble in the magical lore, they are often referred to as the 'people of the staff' or 'wizards'. So I knew I had to make her a wizard! I started with traditional pencil, which was a true pleasure to do - my PC is retired when it comes to TTK line art! I did some very basic shading and scanned it. At some point during the painting process, I realized her legs were too short - especially because the Anwei  are a people whose stature is above average. So here the computer actually saved me, as I tweaked it and did like the final result. Both are here so you can compare them, along with a work in progress image taken when I tested the bigger legs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Next: Anwei male. No começo deste ano meu grande amigo Alysson Lago me mandou um link para um sistema e cenário de RPG: The Third Kingdom. O autor, Todd Leback, estava procurando um artista para fazer ilustrações - e eu rapidamente entrei no projeto! Eu fiquei bastante ocupado com outros trabalhos por alguns meses, mas finalmente eu posso começar a fazer as ilustrações para o TTK.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Third Kingdom é um cenário de fantasia realmente interessante! Continua a me impressionar quanto mais eu leio! Eu vou deixar as palavras as palavras do próprio Todd descrever sua criação: (tradução minha)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"O Terceiro Reino é o lar dos mortais, ocupando a espaço entre a imortal Faerie e a Eternidade, na qual a morte não existe. O mundo do Terceiro Reino é muito parecido com o nosso em geografia e tamanho, mas a magia é onipresente. Enquanto que raças tradicionais de fantasia (elfos, anões, etc.) existem, os personagens são humanos. O cenário detalhado neste livro assume que os personagens começam o jogo na Borda, uma grande extensão de terra com cerca de três mil milhas de comprimento e mais de mil de largura no continente de Onsuulan. Neste local, a socieade humana se concentra em grande enclaves urbanos, cada um uma cidade-estado independente. A Borda em si é selvagem e perigosa para viajantes, devido à sempre presente energia mágica que molda e distorce a natureza. Enquanto que os humanos aprenderam a utilizar e se beneficiar de Plasma (energia mágica) ele o fazem com grande risco - pois manipular plasma frequentemente tem consequências não intencionais, manifestando mortais criaturas mágicas, sedentas por carne e sangue humano.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A utilização de magia permitiu a humanidade se libertar das normas padrão de uma sociedade medieval, e o nível de sofisticação tecnológica é bem maior do que poderia se esperar. Uma reclusiva mas poderosa Guilda, os Feiticeiros, conseguiu unir magia e tecnologia de uma forma que permite que grandes naves aéreas movidas a plasma singrem os céus entre as cidades; energia mágica seja estocada em baterias ou 'células-plasmóides'; e um sistema de comércio inteiro baseado na troca de energia mágica."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Este é um trecho do Player's Handbook do TTK. Ele também está mantendo a porta aberta e permitindo que as pessoas ajudem a desenvolver e detalhar o cenário.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sobre a ilustração: este é um dos primeiros desenhos que fiz para o TTK. Esta é uma mulher humana da etnia Anwei. Enquanto que nem todos seus indivíduos se envolvem com o arcano, eles são frequentemente chamados de 'povo do bastão' ou 'magos'. Então eu sabia que teria de fazer ela como uma maga! Eu comecei com lápis tradicional, que foi um verdadeiro prazer - meu PC está aposentado em relação a arte de linhas para TTK! Eu fiz algums sombras só pra marcar e escaniei. Em algum ponto do processo de pintar, eu percebi que as pernas dela estavam muito pequenas, especialmente porque os Anwei são um povo de estatura acima da média. Então aqui o computador me salvou, na medida em que eu alterei o desenho e até gostei do resultado final. Ambas versões estão aqui então você pode compará-las, junto com uma imagem do trabalho sendo feito, justamente quando eu testava se as pernas deveriam ser maiores.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A seguir: Anwei do sexo masculino. E posts menores, agora que o cenário está devidamente apresentado. Eu tenho muita coisa pra desenhar. I figured that while I was at it, I might as well do it as a comic page - I rarely do them, so I better get started! There are many stories I want to tell, be it with pre-exisiting characters such as Logan or ones I created. So this is as a matter of fact the first Sequential Art on this blog!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was all digital and based on some stills of the movie. I actually am having a hard time deciding between traditional pencils/tones and straight, all digital work. I feel digital art can be stiff and limit my creativity sometimes; but on the other hand it allows a nice precison, and anything can be changed at any part of the process. It's worth mentioning that the paper size can be modified at will and there's no need for physical (and costly) materials! Reference photos are also easier to work with and search digitally - much better than using a light box, and flipping through lots of books for a single pic. No doubts on the coloring - I'm all for digital colors, since I was never that much into traditional coloring/painting to begin with - I'm a lines guy. Downside? Computers have their own steep costs and there is the need for constant back ups. When something is digital and not printed, you lose it for good if your hard drive dies - something that did happen to me! For now I'll alternate between both worlds, but at some point I know I'll need to specialize in one of them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Back to Wolvie: I want to color this one later and maybe continue with the story, but no promises - I have other stuff to draw now! I'm very excited about this new project and I will post news about it soon, stay tuned.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;_________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Titulo"&gt;Depois de assistir X-Men - Origens: Wolverine&lt;/span&gt; é óbvio que eu ia desenhar algo com o tampinha fodão Canadense! Então pensei que já que eu ia desenhá-lo, aproveitaria a oportunidade e faria em forma de página de quadrinhos - eu raremente faço isso, então é melhor eu começar! Tem muitas histórias que eu quero contar, seja com personagens existentes como o Logan ou outros que inventei. Então esta é na verdade a primeira Arte Sequencial neste blog!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tudo foi digital e baseado em algumas partes filme. Na verdade eu estou dividido em decidir entre lápis/tons tradicionais e trabalhar diretamente com tudo digital. Eu sinto que arte digital pode ser meio dura e pode limitar minha criatividade às vezes; mas por outro lado permite uma excelente precisão, e tudo pode ser mudado em qualquer parte do processo. Vale a pena mencionar que o tamanho do papel pode ser modificado à vontade e não há necessidade de materias físicos (e caros)! Fotos de referência são mais fáceis de trabalhar e pesquisar digitalmente - bem melhor que usar uma mesa de luz e ficar folheando diversos livros em busca de uma foto. Não tenho dúvidas em relação a cores - sou totalmente a favor de cores digitais, já que eu nunca fui tão fissurado em colorir/pintar tradicionalmente - eu sou um cara de linhas. E os contras? Computadores tem seu próprio e alto custo e a eterna necessidade de constantes back ups. Quando algo é digital e não é impresso, você perde-o pra sempre se seu disco rígido morrer - algo que já aconteceu comigo! Por enqunto vou transitar entre ambos mundos, mas em algum ponto eu sei que vou precisar me especializar em um deles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;De volta ao Wolvie: Eu quero colorir este trabalho depois e talvez continuar a história, mas sem promessas - eu tenho outras coisas pra desenhar agora! This blog h&lt;/span&gt;as its first birthday today. As cliche as it sounds, it feels like everything started yesterday - and that time &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;does&lt;/span&gt; fly by.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The start was comfortable, with artwork I had already done such as RPG characters. I started to mix it with new things gradually, until I had used up all my stock of decent art to post here. So I started to challenge myself into producing artwork specifically for the blog. Sometimes I did not update as often as I wanted to, and I am still trying to be consistent. For this year I promised (myself) I would keep it at one post a week no matter what, and so far I made it, even when I had a lot going on.&lt;br /&gt;___________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eu consegui! Soa bem clichê, mas parece que foi ontem que tudo começou - e que o tempo voa mesmo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O começo foi tranquilo, com arte que eu já tinha feito, como personagens de campanhas de RPG. Eu comecei a misturar estes com coisas novas gradualmente, até que eu tinha usado todo meu estoque de arte decente pra postar aqui. Work! Yes, some very intelligent, beautiful and awesome people liked my humble work. While I did a few gigs last year, it was in this one that I got work in one of the fields I aspire to be a pro in: RPG books illustration.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am working with the talented people from &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/"&gt;Alephtar Games&lt;/a&gt;! So far I did seven illustrations for the Basic Roleplaying Rome book (for the Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying system). There is a link for a preview that can be found &lt;a href="http://www.stupormundi-rpg.com/rome.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;, and it has one of my illustrations in page 5! I am working on another project for them as well, which will be released soon. I will get into details when I can!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In addition, I have other RPG works scheduled to start right after I finish my current work, so I'm very busy. Sim, algumas pessoas inteligentes, lindas e fenomenais gostaram do meu humilde trabalho. My brother Marzo Jr. whose birthday is today along with this blog (Happy Birthday!). Artists's families suffer first and the worst: I draw, write and blog on his computer, which he rarely uses. I ask him opinions on my work and we talk a lot about comics and other topics, and have created lots of characters and worlds together. Blog visitors: thank you for taking the time to come here. As I took my own art for granted for a long time, it was a wake up call. I am gradually starting to stop that switching off and consuming (tv etc) and instead switch ON and create. Some days after working for twelve or more hours I still managed to draw for fun or draw for this blog. Eu estou gradualmente começando a parar de dar aquela desligada e consumir (tv etc.) e ao invés disso ligar e criar. Alguns dias depois de trabalhar por douze (hehe) ou mais horas eu ainda consegui desenhar por diversão ou desenhar pra este blog. My process started with finding reference photos for the figure and looking into the Watchmen comics for the background. Then I started the figure, keeping the 'naked' figure on a  layer while drawing the clothing on another layer on top of it. I think that's really neat. Its faster, easier and less messy to do on the PC than with traditional pencils. After the figure was more developed I did lots of tweaks; especially in the face and to the left arm, which appeared broken (WIP 1). Then I did the background and added solid blacks to the figure, to make it stand out from it. Color flats were done next, which gives the general tones and helps in selecting areas to render. While I liked the colors I picked, after the render was done I tweaked them using Photoshop tools until I got something I liked better. I'm just addicted to doing that. Its so easy to change colors on a digital work, so why not? (WIP 2). Then I wanted to add a light coming from behind Ozy, much like in the Comics. After making some variations and settling for a double green-blue lightning, I added the actual TVs where it would come from (WIP 3). I wanted the piece in comic format, but I thought that the TVs needed to be there or the lightning would seem arbitrary. I still think it works without the ligtning and the TVs, and I can still go for that editing the file :) Maybe I'll add a speech ballon later, with the 'I DID IT!'&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;About the character: Ozymandias is my favorite Watchmen char. Might be one of my top 5 or top 10 comics characters ever. Can't comment much without spoiling for people that didn't read or watch it :) Suffice to say that the choice he makes, and the link of that to Alexander the Great cutting the Gordian Knot, is fantastic. It speaks directly about the human nature in an atemporal way. And atemporal indeed, as we can relate it to our times, the wars we've seen and the world leaders we have or had. To have that kind of insight in a comic is stunning. Watchmen is a real work of art with Alan Moore's writing, the fantastic art of Dave Gibbons and the colors of John Higgins!&lt;br /&gt;___________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;E agora, de volta ao Ozy. Meu processo começou com a busca por fotos de referência para a figura e olhando as revistas do Watchmen para o cenário. Então eu comecei a figura, deixando ela 'nua' em uma camada e desenhando as roupas em outra camada por cima. Eu acho isso bom demais. É mais rápido, fácil e menos bagunçado de fazer no PC do que desenhar à lápis. Depois da figura estar mais detalhada eu fiz vários ajustes; especialemte o rosto e o braço esquerdo, que parecia quebrado (WIP 1). Então eu fiz o cenário e adicionei áreas de preto na figura, pra fazer ela se destacar do fundo. Cores chapadas foram feitas a seguir, o que dá o tom geral e ajuda a selecionar as áreas para colorir. Ainda que gostando das cores ecolhidas, depois de colorir tudo eu modifiquei as cores usando ferramentas do Photoshop até achar algo que eu gostasse mais. Eu sou simplesmente viciado em fazer isso. É tão fácil mudar cores em um trabalho digital, porque não fazê-lo? (WIP 2). Então eu quis adicionar luzes por trás do Ozy, assim como acontece na HQ. Depois de fazer algumas variações e escolher uma iluminação dupla verde-azul, eu adicionei as televisões de onde ela viria (WIP 3). Eu queria este desenho em formato de HQ americano, mas eu achei que as TVs eram necessárias ali ou a iluminação ia parecer arbitrária. Eu ainda acho que funciona bem sem as luzes e as TVs, e ainda posso fazer isso editando o arquivo :) Talvez eu adicione um balão depois com o 'EU CONSEGUI!'&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sobre o personagem: Ozymandias é o meu personagem preferido de Watchmen. Talvez esteja no meu top 5 ou top 10 de personagens de HQ. Não dá pra comentar muito sem estragar a história para quem não leu ou viu :) É suficiente dizer que a escolha que ele faz, e a analogia disso com o Alexandre o Grande cortando o Nó Górdio, é fantástica. Fala diretamente a respeito da natureza humana de uma forma atemporal. Realmente atemporal, pois podemos relacionar com os nossos tempos, as guerra que vimos e os líderes mundiais que temos ou tivemos. Ter este tipo de epifania em uma HQ é impressionante. This was all digital, from digital ink to colors. I had so much fun doing this! I think I'm enjoying making art more and more as each day passes. If I can actually earn a living from doing this one day, wow! Included some details of this work for your pleasure (well I hope heh!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So the movie &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;is&lt;/span&gt; great. Although for me, the graphic novel is still better and a true work of Art, that really impressed me when I read it. I don't want to be polemic - I thought about posting this for a long time - but I do respect Alan Moore ignoring the movie and saying Watchmen's language is specific to comics. Its a bit extremist yes, but I see the man's point. Imagine someone trying to adapt one of his other works, Promethea, to a movie. If you read it, you know what I mean (Well maybe Pete Greenaway could do it). As good as comics movies are, they are still adaptations; and they do conform to a mass entertainment industry. So a V from V for Vendetta does a Matrix style fight in the movie, while in the comics a single cop shoots him down. The movie fight is more fun, but can't say it doesn't change things. And since Alan Moore constantly renews and pushes the boundaries of the comics genre, that makes it hard if not impossible to adapt his works. In the man's own words, found in &lt;a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2008/09/alan-moore-on-w.html"&gt;this&lt;/a&gt; interview: "I got into comics because I thought it was a good and useful medium that had not been explored to its fullest potential". And man, did he turn the comics world upside down. Suffice to say Watchmen is considered as one of the top 100 english literature pieces.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To conclude: my suggestion? Watch the movies and be entertained as the rest of the world does. And then read the comic where it came from. With a hot, steaming cup of coffe as Alan Moore says :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;__________________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quem vigia os vigilantes?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eu 'vigiei' - então eu tive de fazer uma arte de Watchmen! Esta foi toda digital, do nanquim digital às cores. Eu me diverti muito fazendo isso! Eu acho que gosto de fazer arte mais e mais a cada dia que passa. Se eu puder viver disso um dia, aí fechou! Incluí alguns detalhes deste trampo para seu deleite (bem eu espero heh!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Então, o filme &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;é&lt;/span&gt; bom. Entretanto pra mim os quadrinhos são ainda melhor e uma verdadeira obra de Arte, que realmente me impressionou quando eu li. Eu não quero ser polêmico - eu pensei em postar isto por um tempão - mas eu respeito o Alan Moore ignorando o filme e dizendo que a linguagem de Watchmen é específica dos quadrinhos. The theme is super-heroes, and the system is Mutants &amp;amp; Masterminds. I wanted to do a mugshot of my character, since he will be one of those guys that are always getting into bar fights and trouble in general! Following the suggestion of my friend Cris Lago I made it more realistic, using traditional ink and lots of hatching. Also used photo reference (can't get a live model for most things), so this char is based on a famous wrestler. Let's see who knows who he is. Prize will be a Super Spinning Piledriver on whoever guesses correctly (picture Zangied from Street Fighter).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;________________________________________________________&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Uma nova campanha de RPG com meus amigos vai começar daqui a pouco. O tema é super-heróis, e o sistema Mutantes &amp;amp; Malfeitores. Eu quis fazer uma foto de prisão do meu personagem, já que ele vai ser um desses caras que estão sempre entrando em brigas de bar e problemas em geral! Seguindo a sugestão do meu amigo Cris Lago eu fiz este mais realista, utilizando nanquim tradicional e muitas hachuras. Também usei referência fotográfica (não dá pra ter modelo vivo pra muitas coisas), então este personagem é baseado em um lutador famoso. Vamos ver quem sabe quem ele é.
